Opinionated Profile of Teen Top

I’m not really sure what I’ll do with this feature after the opinionated profiles are done… I’ve been thinking about it quite a lot lately, and I am about half-way through all the groups that I know well enough to write about like this. So what should I do after that? I’m not sure yet, but if you have some great idea of something you’d like to see as random posts, then let me know!

But this feature isn’t finished yet, and this week we’re tackling Teen Top! As always, I like the group and all the members, but I’m still fully capable of ranking them.

6. Ricky

Birth name: Yoo Chang Hyun

Stage name: Ricky

Birthday: February 27, 1995

Official height: 172 cm

Position: Vocalist, Lead Dancer

Comment: I’m sorry, but Ricky really does close to nothing for me. If you’ve read my ‘Attraction levels of kpop groups #1’-post then you know that I’m not at all attracted to Ricky and the rest of him doesn’t do much for me either.

I’ve always thought of him as the second member of the dance-line, but I’ve never actually paid any attention to his dancing, so I have no idea how good he actually is. That’s due to how he’s presented though, if they wanted me to know how good he is, they would show me.

Ricky barely gets to sing at all, and I get why. He’s not a very strong singer (at least not from what I can see, which isn’t much).

Ricky has always been the aegyo of the group for me, and it’s very rare that that’s the member I fall for. It just really isn’t my style.

5. Chunji

Birth name: Lee Chan Hee

Stage name: Chunji

Birthday: October 5, 1993

Official height: 173 cm

Position: Lead Vocalist, Visual

Comment: I feel a little bit bad for Chunji, because it’s really not his fault that I don’t like him. That’s all on the management who gave him that gross part in ‘No More Perfume on You’. It wasn’t just the fact that song and video is still the most puzzling management decision ever, but the way he looked and smiled in that video just creeped me out. If it was any other video it would have been adorable, but not in this one. Really not in this one. And I realize that this isn’t his fault at all, but whenever I see him act cute in that way now, I just want to punch him. And yes, that’s harsh, but I’m sure many of you agree with me on this.

I have slightly “forgiven” Chunji though, which is why he’s not number six on this list. While he still doesn’t really interest me much, I do find him more interesting than Ricky.

I’m slightly puzzled by the vocal-line in Teen Top… I’ve never found either of their voices to be that strong and I find both of their sounds a little strange. So when people fangirl their asses off when they sing, I’m just left confused. I know that it’s a personal preference, but it’s still weird to me.

While I can see why Chunji is the visual, and can see that he’s a cute guy, his look really doesn’t work for me.

4. L.Joe

Birth name: Lee Byung Hun

Stage name: L.Joe

Birthday: November 23, 1993

Official height: 171 cm

Position: Lead Rapper, Face of the Group

Comment: I’m confused by the titles ‘Visual’ and ‘Face of the Group’. I used to think that the visual was the one who was considered the most attractive by Korean standards, and that the face of the group was the most recognizable member, the one who kind of represents the group. But I would never have thought that L.Joe would be the most recognizable. I’m confused. Am I wrong? Is L.Joe super recognizable and popular in Korea? Maybe he is, stranger things would have happened.

L.Joe is one of the more attractive members to me, but as I’ve already written, he isn’t very memorable physically to me. He’s the default member, the one who’s left when I’ve named all the others. That doesn’t sound nice, but we all know we have those members. The ones we recognize just because it’s not one of the others. I’m getting more acquainted with his face though, so this might change soon.

In pure rap-level, the rap-line has always been on an even level for me. But if I had to choose a favorite rapper out of these two, it might actually be L.Joe. It’s really close though.

3. Changjo

Birth name: Choi Jong Hyun

Stage name: Changjo

Birthday: November 16, 1995

Official height: 179 cm

Position: Main Dancer, Vocalist, Maknae

Comment: Best dancer in the group, hands down. I don’t think we’ve seen close to what this guy has the potential to do, and I’m looking forward to that day.

Even though Changjo is a part of the dance-line, not the vocal-line, I’ve always been the fondest of his voice. As I’ve said, the two vocal-line-members’ voices have always sounded slightly weird to me, while his is very pleasant. Sure, he isn’t some incredible singer, but he has definitely gotten better. Changjo is overall way more manly than his age says he should be, and that’s true when it comes to his singing as well.

I still kind of think it’s a lie that Changjo’s the youngest. I mean, really? For reals? No, I don’t buy it. This guy isn’t that much older than me, and trust me, many of the guys I know feel like twelve-year-olds compared to the vibe Changjo gives off.

I like the manliness, and I find Changjo to be one of the most attractive members.

2. C.A.P

Birth name: Bang Min Soo

Stage name: C.A.P

Birthday: November 4, 1992

Official height: 178 cm

Position: Leader, Main Rapper

Comment: Teen Top was probably the stupidest choice of a name ever. I mean, when they debuted C.A.P was almost 18. Did they not believe that this group would even make it to the two-year mark? Well they did. And a group called ‘Teen Top’ is now being led by a guy who’ll be 22 in less than 7 months. For gods sake, Changjo’ll be 19 this fall! Will they still be called Teen Top when they’re all well into their twenties? Dumbest. Name. Ever. Sorry, rant over.

You should already know that C.A.P is the member I find the most physically attractive, and I’m for sure sticking to that. This dude is gorgeous.

I’m sure most of you’ve heard of the ‘I’ll spoil my son, and beat my daughter’-incident by now, and here’s my take on it: I want to believe it was a very bad joke, I really do. But the way he said it, and the way the other members froze, makes it seem like it wasn’t a joke at all, and in that case that’s extremely not okay. But I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt here, just because I want to. It has colored my impression of him though, and I am definitely keeping my eyes open for more signs that he is, well, an asshole.

As I said a little while ago, the two rappers are on equal ground for me in this group. I don’t really have much of a preference, but if I had to choose it’d probably be L.Joe.

1. Niel

Birth name: Ahn Daniel

Stage name: Niel

Birthday: August 16, 1994

Official height: 178 cm

Position: Main Vocalist

Comment: I absolutely adore Niel, that’s for sure. I love his gorgeous, unique face, I sort of love his weird voice, I love his dancing and I adore the fact that he can’t do aegyo. I also really love it when my biases are young enough that I could date them right this second, without it being gross.

There really isn’t much for me to say here, because I’d just be repeating the same thing over and over again. LOVE. Anyway, I’m sure I’ve written this before, but here we go again: when I first saw Niel in the evil video that shall not be named again, I was enthralled with him. But it took me quite a while before I could decide if I found him fascinating because he was weird-looking or because he was good-looking. I settled on good-looking, times two. And since then Niel was my bias, and I’d never ever let go of him.
