Opinionated Profile of NU’EST

As we’re traveling further and further down my bias list I’m becoming less and less knowledgeable about the personalities of the groups. I don’t think I’ve watched any variety shows nor interviews with NU’EST so I can really just judge their personalities on things I’ve heard and the vibes I get from them.

But with that said, let’s get into this opinionated profile!

5. Aron

Birth name: Kwak Young Min

Stage name: Aron

Birthday: May 21, 1993

Official height: 176 cm

Position: Lead Rapper, Lead Dancer, Sub-Vocalist

Comment: It’s quite interesting how I always think of Aron as being old. He is the oldest in the group, but he’s really just about to turn 21. He’s barely an adult. But I guess that’s what you get for being a part of such a young group.

Aron’s such a cute thing, but I always feel like he gets overshadowed by the other members. Not intentionally, it’s just that he doesn’t really stand out the way most of the other guys do.

It’s been way to long since NU’EST’s last comeback! For god’s sakes, it’s been almost a year! I need me some NU’EST!

Okay, now when that’s said, Aron really grew on me as a rapper during their last promotions. I’ve always thought he was a perfectly acceptable rapper, but I really loved his rapping in ‘Sleep Talking’.

4. Minhyun

Birth name: Hwang Min Hyun

Stage name: Minhyun

Birthday: August 9, 1995

Official height: 181 cm

Position: Lead Vocalist, Dancer, Face of the Group

Comment: I always just kind of assumed that Ren was the face of the group… But I guess I was wrong. Minhyun does have a very visual-esque face though, so it makes perfect sense that it’s him. But since they’ve been promoting Ren’s look so much I just assumed that he would be the visual.

Minhyun has really been growing on me lately, and he might move up one spot on this list very soon. That’ll all be decided during their next comeback… If they ever have one that is! I’m sorry, I’m impatient.

I’m really loving Minhyun’s look lately. He has such an interesting face! It’s feminine and feline, and gorgeous.

I’ve never paid that much individual attention to anyone’s singing besides Baekho’s, but Minhyun does seem like a stable lead singer.

3. Baekho

Birth name: Kang Dong Ho

Stage name: Baekho

Birthday: July 21, 1995

Official height: 179 cm

Position: Main Vocalist, Dancer

Comment: Baekho’s been growing on me lately as well… Just not nearly as much as Minhyun has, and he might have to get used to being my number four quite soon.

I’m getting more attracted to Baekho these days. He has such a masculine look and the more my tumblr dashboard is bombarded with pictures of his arms, the more am I liking what I see.

I’m fond of Baekho’s singing. I don’t think NU’EST is much of a vocal group, at all, but Baekho always handles himself very well. He hits his high notes well, and he’s very stable. As a main vocalist he’s perfect for a group such as this one. He’s good enough to always do well and handle all the tricky parts, but he’s not so good that he’s wasted in such an electronic and dance based group as this one.

2. Ren

Birth name: Choi Min Ki

Stage name: Ren

Birthday: November 3, 1995

Official height: 178 cm

Position: Sub-Vocalist, Dancer, Maknae

Comment: At first I have a little comment; what point is there in having a maknae in a group where everyone’s the same age? In Korea everyone who’s born the same year are the same age, so that applies to four out of the five members. So is it really necessary to point out that Ren is born a couple of months later? Maybe I’m missing something, but it just seem silly to me.

I’m going to say this one more time, I love people who push the boundaries on our set-in-stone gender roles! It forces the society to look at things differently, and while I understand that Ren didn’t choose his look, it does make me love him more.

I actually think that Minhyun has a more feminine face than Ren does. If Ren was styled differently I don’t think he’d look much more feminine than most kpop stars. But as long as he’s comfortable, I hope they stick with the feminine styling for him, it’s awesome.

I love that Ren seems to have such a cold bitch personality! I’m not sure if that’s just an act, or if he only acts like that at times, but I love it. Step aside Jessica, the new ice princess has arrived!

1. JR

Birth name: Kim Jong Hyun

Stage name: JR (Junior Royal)

Birthday: June 8, 1995

Official height: 178 cm

Position: Leader, Main Rapper, Main Dancer

Comment: It’s very rare for me to favor the leader. But I’m not really sure if this counts, because before I looked it up I was 100% sure that Baekho was the leader.

When I first found out what JR’s real name is I knew that this was faith. I mean, how can I not choose the one called Kim Jong Hyun? That would just be outrageous.

I really like JR’s look, but I don’t think they’ve always done a very good job styling him. When he has too much hair on top he looks kind of weird, and that’s a shame. The hair he had when they first debuted was amazing.

I’ve always liked JR’s rapping but his rapping, just as Aron’s, really grew on me during their last promotions, and their rap intro is still definitely my favorite part of that song.

I think all of NU’EST are solid dancers, but I do think that JR stands out. Which is appropriate, since he is the main dancer.

  1. You should watch minhyun’s teaser for “face” and his other singing videos. His voice is seriously like an angel. I think he’s more capable at singing then baekho (don’t get me wrong, I love baekho) but I think the reason why minhyun doesn’t get as many parts as baekho is because he already has such a huge role as the visual which gains a lot of attention so maybe the manager is trying to give the other boys the same amount of attention? Idk, just a thought.

    1. I just watched his teaser, and that was truly beautiful. Thanks for recommending it to me! I still don’t think he really shines in NU’EST’s stuff though… It might be that his voice isn’t really suited to that style? I don’t know what it is, but in their own stuff Baekho stands out a lot more to me.

      1. No problem(: if I really think hard about it, baekho doesn’t exactly look like he fits in with the group cause hes really muscular and masculine compared to the others. He’s like the “tough” one xD but I agree that baekho does stand out a lot. Idk why but maybe cause he’s the only muscular one or maybe because his hair or his voice or something? I love baekho’s voice(: (I love baekho in general lol) I just wished that minhyun could sing more in their songs. His singing in “Hello” at the beginning was really beautiful. (And I’m not just saying this cause minhyun is my bias, but I truly believe that his voice is beautfiul and should be shown more)

      2. Haha well I can tell that you like them a lot πŸ˜‰ I’m not sure why Baekho stands out to me, but I guess it could be since he does look different. He’s not as awesome as JR though πŸ˜‰ (I have to say that. He’s my bias.)

  2. Yeah, they’re one of my favorite groups. I’ve been a l.o.ʌ.e (Nu’est) and BANA (B1A4) since their debut. Been a SHAWOL since “Juliette” was released (I believe was the song they released before Ring Ding Dong) and also a V.I.P (BIGBANG) since “Haru Haru” these are the only guy groups I listen to. I want to give EXO and Super Junior a try soon(:

      1. Yeah, I’m a bit picky when it comes to groups. In general, I just don’t like too big of groups so usually 5 members is my limit lol. Usually with me and kpop, If I get an “omg I love this group, their music is great, I want to learn all their names” then I add them to my list. But for now, Nu’est, BIGBANG, SHINee and B1A4 are my main bias “guy groups.” While KARA, Crayonpop, TinyG (just joined my list) and Orange Caramel are my main bias girl groups. Lately I’ve been liking ZE:A but I’m not exactly sure if I wanna add them to my bias list yet. I used to like 2pm too but idk why I stopped listening to them. I used to listen to super junior, after “Sorry, sorry” came out, I fell in love with that song and the group, but after a while, I just stopped listening to them so I’m hoping I can give them another chance. I’ve been a fan of kpop since 2006 (or 2005 I can’t remember lol), but only a few groups have really captured my attention. So I’ve just been pretty much loyal to those groups all these years. I wanna give other groups a chance though xD

      2. Wow! What do you do when those people aren’t having comebacks? πŸ˜› The great thing about liking as many groups as I do is that you’re always excited for something! XD Maybe you can find some new groups here then? πŸ˜‰

  3. And I love SS501, I have no idea why I forgot to type that lol. They’re one of my main bias guy groups too(:

  4. Yeah, what’s sad is that since Korea has the law about male citizens serving 2 years in the military, T.O.P, Gdragon, and Taeyang will be serving their years soon. I believe T.O.P is leaving sometime this month (or he already left) to go serve. Than after T.O.P, Gdragon and Taeyang serves, Seungri and Daesung need to 😦 so idk when they’ll come back. I’m so sad right now 😦 hopefully I can find some other groups to fill in the void until they come back. I listened to EXO’s “Growl” yesterday and I love it (and Xiumin lol)! Then I listened to “wolf”. At first I didn’t like it but after listening to it a couples of times, It’s not that bad (: it’s suprising that I actually like this group despite that it has 11 members (since Kris left). If you know any groups that you think is worth listening to , please give me some recommendations(: thank you.

    1. Wait what? :O I didn’t know they were leaving already! Are you sure? 😦 Well…. Any of my top groups are worth listening to πŸ˜‰ It’s kind of hard to decipher what your preference is based on your favourite groups… They’re all different lol
