In two days Block B will release their new single album ‘Jackpot’, but the music video for the title song is already out! Almost six months after the extended play ‘Very Good’ with the lead single ‘Very Good’ was released, Block B is back!
Wow, I’m very pleased with this. Block B has yet to disappoint me with anything they put out, and this is yet another great to add to the list.
In sound this is very close to the style of ‘Very Good’, though maybe slightly more drunk. It’s like ‘Very Good’ even later into the night. I love it, and really think this is a huge load of fun.
I’m really loving the way everyone sounds here, everyone got to sing, and everyone handles their parts excellently. I’m not saying that the line distribution was completely fair, because it wasn’t, but everyone did at least get one line, which isn’t always the case. I find it interesting that U-Kwon has more lines than Jaehyo though, that’s new.
Side note, since when is P.O a singer? Except for maybe Zico’s rap in the beginning, the rapping in this song is more on the melodic style, but most of what P.O did here was for sure not rapping. I’m not complaining, not at all, I love his singing here, I’m just a little confused.
I especially love P.O’s and B-Bomb’s parts in this song, those were just excellent. But as I’ve said already, everyone rocked it.
These lyrics are all about success, about how you have to work your ass off to get anywhere, and coasting isn’t enough. At least that’s my interpretation, I’m sure there’s many other way to look at these lyrics.
I just love that this is the opening line, because this is really what we all think every time we see these guys. They’re awesomely weird though.
This sounds very cool and all, but according to my calculations (i.e. going to wikipedia and counting) they’ve only released six albums, counting this one. So I’m not really sure what to do with this line. Either my calculations are wrong, or this just makes no sense whatsoever.
(Wow getting these screenshots to a size where they’re at least sort of readable, without either being totally blurry, or not fitting into the post is a challenge. If you can’t read them, just click on them.)
I interpret this as “if you don’t go out of your way and do everything you can, you won’t make it”.
This sounds really harsh, but sometimes you really get that one shot. This also plays into the whole concept of success being hitting the jackpot, in a clever way.
But no pressure.
I really like this whole section of the lyrics. It describes a luxurious life style, but by saying it’s just a dream points to the fact that it’s never that easy. And it isn’t.
Well other people’s success is rarely something we see as good news, right? It might actually be good for us, but humans are petty and jealous creatures, and we rarely see it that way.
This is the line in the chorus, and it really describes what this whole song is about. Work hard, go for it, and you’ll be there first.
And what do we do with haters?
Exactly. We ignore them.
From the chorus. It doesn’t really mean that much, except that we’ve won. We hit the jackpot, and reached success.
This is my favorite line in the entire song. There’s no better revenge than making them watch you succeed.
This is an interesting line. What they’re saying is that you have to work honestly, that cheating doesn’t pay off. It kind of goes against the thing they said earlier about how you shouldn’t live “leniently and try for success” because you won’t succeed, but oh well.
Once again: you have to work to get where you want.
This gave me a strong sense of the past. Block B has for sure dealt with some crises in their time, but they came out swinging, and are now stronger than ever.
I won’t try to find some deep meaning behind this video, because frankly, I don’t think there is any to find. I have no idea how the meaning of the lyrics has anything to do with kidnapping a girl and forcing her to be a part of a demented and creepy circus, and then her flipping them off and leaving. So instead I’ll just appreciate this video for some cool shots, and lots of fun, because I think that’s really what it’s supposed to be.
I love the creepy clowns. I’m not particularly scared of clowns, and I found these to be the perfect blend of funny and creepy. I love this cute pose that Kyung (it is Kyung, right?) does, it’s adorable. I also love this scene in general for the way it’s shot, the colors are awesome.
Did Zico scare her so much she passed out? In that case, she really is a proper lady! I didn’t know we were supposed to do that anymore.
Yeah this isn’t creepy or anything. I love it.
Block B are the weirdest dorks in the entire kpop industry, and I love them for it. This scene shows why.
I think this might be my favorite set, it’s super creepy but at the same time highly aesthetically pleasing.
This set was pretty damn awesome to though. This entire video is beautifully shot, in that the way the colors and textures are brought out is really stunning. I like it immensely.
I love this little throwback to ‘Very Good’, just as I love the fact that the ending was a sort of throwback to ‘Nillili Mambo’, it makes me all nostalgic.
Seeing as how the rest of the video was really quite colorful, this scene did feel slightly out of place. That’s not to say that I didn’t like it, I sure did. This strange chase scene was greatly creepy, and I therefore liked it.
I also really liked how they transitioned back into the colorful world again, with Kyung twirling the parasol, going from this:
That was both clever, and pretty, and I appreciated it.
I really like the question marks that keep popping up next to the girl, she’s really just as confused about what’s going on as we are.
I have a strange feeling that tells me that the demented hairdresser is Zico. Am I wrong? I think not.
I really love how the boys both manage to look super handsome and demented all at the same time, that’s not very easy to pull off.
This dance is crazy, flipped, and all that we want from Block B. I’m very pleased with my boys.
This would have to be my favorite move, if only for the element of surprise.
I do really love P.O’s hand-dance as well though. It’s simple and easy to overlook, but brilliant.
I’m not even sure if this counts as being part of the dance, but it should. The amount of fabulous is just over-flowing.
Outfits and Styling
I’m overall very pleased with the styling in this video. There were several members that have never looked better, and that’s always the best of signs.
Zico might have more looks than I’ll touch on here, but I’m sticking with these three. This is my favorite look from him in this video. His hair, makeup, and wardrobe are all completely nuts, and I love it! He pulls it off with plenty of grace, and that’s not easy. Not just any guy can rock enormous amounts of pink eyeshadow.
This is my least favorite out of Zico’s look, purely because it’s the most run-of-the-mill. Zico can do better than that.
He looks a little too handsome for words like this. Like, wow. That’s all I got to say.
Taeil has pretty much the exact same look from the last music video. I’m not sure if it’s the most flattering for him, but it does work.
I like the silver hair on Jaehyo. It’s not the best look he’s had, but it suits him well.
U-Kwon rocks the same hairstyle in two different colors in this video, and I love him in both. This hairstyle is perfect for him, and both colors work excellently.
I’ve never been as attracted to Kyung as I was in this video. He looks great in this hair, and may he keep it for a long time.
I don’t think I’ve ever been this attracted to B-Bomb either. I’ve always found him attractive, but he just slayed in this video. This hair was perfect, and may he keep it for a long time.
I’ve never found P.O this sexy. And he’s also never reminded me of T.O.P as much as he did here. I know that the two are constantly compared, but I’ve never seen much of a connection except for some very basic things. But here, I do see it.
I love that P.O can go from super sexy, as in the last shot, to well, this. I love you for doing this, but you look like an idiot. But don’t stop.
This though, has to stop. That is the most ridiculous hat I’ve ever seen, and I want it gone.
Out of the group outfits this would probably have to be my least favorite. It’s not bad, but it could have been better.
I like these outfits though! I always like it when there’s anything black and white, and suit-looking, going on, and these took that and quirked it up in an awesome way.
But these are definitely my favorite group outfits. Super colorful suits? Yes, please.
Oh wow, my boys did not disappoint! This was done to perfection, all in Block B’s own style, and I’m loving it. The video was great, the song is great, the dance is great and the styling’s great! I really don’t have much to complain about, and I’ll just go soak in happiness that one of my absolute favorite groups came back so excellent.
