Kpop Songs to Represent Kpop Groups – B.A.P, BTOB, Teen Top, Infinite & MBLAQ

I’m back again with the third installment to my ‘kpop songs to represent kpop groups’-installment and this time we’ll be tackling five new groups! I will just as before choose two songs per group, and these choices are not limited to singles.

1. Warrior

I’m going to forever remember this as one of the absolute strongest kpop debuts ever. This song is still one of my absolute favorite tracks from B.A.P and it really set the tone for the subsequent releases. And even though I’ve at least slightly embraced their new style and I really do like it, I will keep waiting for this B.A.P to come back.

I feel like this style was more original than where they’re at now, and I think it was both more interesting and suited them better. It’s all a matter of preference, but I think I’ve made it pretty clear where I stand.

2. Hurricane

While ‘Warrior’ feels like a given for this list, ‘Hurricane’ might be a much more disputable choice. A lot of people find this song (and that includes the Engrish) awkward and claim that this is nothing like B.A.P’s style. But since I have no real clue what B.A.P’s style really is anymore, and I have a strange love for Engrish, I can’t agree.

This is one of my absolute favorite get-pumped-songs and I find it almost impossible to sit still to this. This video also made me see Daehyun as one of those way too sexy people that you just can’t ignore, which totally fucked up my bias list. While I can agree that this isn’t the best song B.A.P has ever made, and I don’t want them to stick to this style, this was still by far my favorite out of their trio of singles from last year.

1. Wow

This was the first song I ever heard from BTOB and I’ve listened to it too much to even admit. This is still my favorite song from them, and I just love it! This song is fun, catchy, sexy and just all around awesome! And this video primarily just shows two things: these guys can dance, and they are HOT. I’m sorry, this comment is getting out of hand. I love this song, and I became a fan after knowing just this song. Some groups are like that, right? All it takes is that one song, and you’re doomed.

2. Father

If ‘Wow’ is just on this list because I really love that song, this one is on here for two reasons. It’s here because it’s a really beautiful song, but mostly it’s here because as someone who lost her father to suicide about seven months ago, this song’s lyrics resonates with me like almost nothing else. These lyrics express a sense of wanting to apologize and make things better, and being sad for not knowing. And as you can probably understand, this is something that is very easy for me to relate to. But these lyrics also promise to do better in the future, and hoping it’s not too late. That’s the one part I can’t relate to, because I know it’s too late for me. Here are the lyrics, if you want to see for yourself:

If this made you in anyway uncomfortable, then I apologize. I just felt like I had to include this song, and that if I did, I would have to explain why this song means so much to me.

Teen Top

1. Miss Right

This wasn’t at all the first Teen Top song I heard, nor was it the first I liked, but it was the first one that made me take them seriously. Before this song I just saw them as being cute and silly, with cute and silly songs. Plus some random crotch-grabbing. This song and video made me see them as fun instead of silly, and it proved to me that they were both good dancers and capable of doing songs that I could seriously say that I liked, without feeling embarrassed. I know this might be offensive to some, but for a long time Teen Top was that group that I sort of liked, but that I judged myself for liking, and wouldn’t fess up to. (Kind of like what Boyfriend is to me now) This song changed all that, and that’s a big achievement.

2. Rock Star

I think this might be my favorite Teen Top song ever. And yes, I know that including it is a little unfair because it only includes one third of the group, but I love it too much to not include it! It’s catchy, it’s fun and I love the beat. I’m not sure if the whole ‘we’re totally cool and rockstars’-act is supposed to be funny, but I think it is, so I’ll interpret it as that.

1. Before the Dawn

This song makes me feel like I’m some kind of spy or ninja on some really urgent mission that has to get done before the dawn. It also kind of feels like I won’t come out of it alive, but I’m fine with that. And there’s nothing weird with me feeling like that! To be honest, I haven’t even looked up the lyrics to this song so I have no idea whatsoever what this song is actually about, and I won’t check them either. I’m sticking to my version.

Infinite are great dancers and the dance for this song is one of my absolute favorites from them. While SHINee is my favorite dance group, that relies more on choreography and togetherness (and slightly on me being biased), than actual individual dance skills. In that area I might actually think that Infinite has them beat.

2. Paradise

I’m not sure if this is actually something they do a lot, but I’ve come to strongly connect Infinite to having ridiculously high-pitched choruses. It’s really impressive, I mean, I’m a girl and there’s no chance in hell that I could sing that high. This song in particular is a great example of this. When I listen to this song I for some reason feel like I’m about to die. And like I’m melancholic about it but not sad, since I know I’m going to a better place. Sad thing is, I’m wrong. Wow, what is going on with me today? I had no idea Infinite’s songs contained such deep stories for me. The more you learn.

1. Mona Lisa

To be honest, I chose to include this song because I couldn’t decide on the second song. I do really like this one though! I like songs with that kind of spanishy guitar sound, and this one is a perfect example of that. It’s a very upbeat and dancy song. And speaking of dance, I for some reason really like this dance! I can’t put my finger on what exactly about it is that I like, I just do. (But I would like anything that would put Joon in a shirt like that one. Hot damn.)

2. This is War

This is my favorite thing that MBLAQ has ever done. From styling, to dance, to lyrics, to video, to overall sound of the song, this reeks of over-dramaticness and that’s now the thing I want most from them. I’m waiting not so patiently for them to release something else like this. Any day now.

You know how you sometimes find a new group and just madly fall in love with one member? And you end up following that group for a long time without even bothering to learn the names of the other members, because you’re too in love with your bias to even care? That’s what this video led to for me. I regret nothing. And while I did take the time to learn the other members (and am very happy that I did so), I’m still slightly too in love to fully care about them.

I hope you enjoyed this, and that you won’t judge me too harshly for the strange things I do and think.
