16 months almost to the day after her extended play ‘Talk About S’ and the promotional single ‘Bloom’ were released Ga In is back with the new extended play ‘Truth or Dare’ and the promotional single ‘FxxK You’ featuring Bumkey. Watch the video and then we’ll get going!
This is a really smooth song, and I think it’s really good. It’s partly pissed off and partly very sexy. I like it a lot. I also think that including Bumkey to sing what the guy is thinking/saying was a very good choice. His voice is really nice just like Ga In’s is, and their voices blend together very well and he helps bring some more dimension to the song. I also love that he didn’t so much have his own parts like featured artists often have, and instead just popped in and sang one line here and there. Very nice song that can definitely stand on it’s own.
These lyrics are basically about Ga In not wanting to sleep with her boyfriend (I guess) and him trying to persuade her with all the classic lines. But let’s get into it more with all my epic screen shots! (Cheer, god damn it!)
This one line kind of sums up this song. His hands are bad and he wants to put them in places.
This is apparently a very smooth guy who’s very good at talking his way through life, I guess…? She still says no, but I guess his smoothness makes her have some doubts at least.
So she kinds of want him I guess. But she doesn’t think that he’s the kind of guy to stick around after ‘he gets everything’ so she won’t sleep with him.
This is his line trying to convince her that he’s completely open and honest with her and that she shouldn’t doubt him.
Still him trying to convince her. Oh I’m sure the classic ‘but we’re so in love’ is totally going to work, keep it up dude.
This part is in the chorus so it’s repeated several times. The whole part about it not being natural makes me think that this isn’t exactly a very deep and committed relationship. At least not enough so for her to think that it’s time to take it to the next level.
The first part is her saying that she doesn’t want to and the second part is him saying that she’s misunderstanding him.
Okay, this is definitely an insanely smooth dude.
This implies that it’s hard for her to fall, which of course means that he’s very insanely smooth. And still can’t get laid? Damn, that’s too bad dude.
This is kind of an Engrish line… While it makes sense if you just read it, it doesn’t make much sense in the context and the way she pronounces it isn’t very good at all.
More Engrish. This is one of those times where I kind of know what they mean but it just sounds very awkward. Not terrible, but not good.
And we’re back with the guy who can’t get laid. So a grown-up love is trying to nag your way to sex? Think you got it wrong there, dude.
Oh god damn it dude! Give it up, she won’t sleep with you! No matter how in ‘love’ you two are, she obviously doesn’t want to.
She seems to be struggling with knowing when the ‘correct’ time is to sleep with a guy. She’s pretty damn sure it isn’t now, but when is it? That’s the question.
And now he’s saying that he won’t leave anyway, that he’s there no matter what. That’s actually kind of sweet. I guess.
That this comes right after makes me uncomfortable though. What exactly is this supposed to mean..?
I’m not entirely sure why this is even in here. It doesn’t make a lot of sense, nor does it really mean anything. And yes, it’s in English.
All in all these lyrics are quite straight-forward: He’s nagging her to sleep with him and she’s telling him that no matter how smooth he is, he should just go fuck himself.
It’s very interesting how the video adds a violent element to this story, which is not expressed through the lyrics. In this video we have lots of pulling on clothes, choking and she even spits him in the face at one point. It’s also interesting to note that while in the lyrics she expresses some sort of attraction and interest in him, the Ga In in the video seems to despise the guy.
This very first shot that we see when the music video starts really sets the stylistic tone for the rest of the video. Whenever these two are together they are both dressed in black and most of the time their environment is all in very cool colors. The contrast between the very cold light in the room they’re in and the warm colors and light in the room outside is very symbolically interesting.
Even in Ga In’s solo shots is she dressed in cool colors and while she is in a room full with warm colors in these shots, she’s completely snuggled up by the only dark/cold colored object in the room.
In the comparison the solo shots of the guy (where he looks incredibly lifeless by the way) are the only shots where someone is wearing warm colors. This most probably represents the fact that he’s the only one interested here, he feels the attraction, he’s the one that’s hot. (You know what I mean) While she is disinterested and therefore cold.
Perfect shot representing this. His side of the room is full of warm colors and a warm light, he’s wearing a warm shade of yellow and he’s reaching towards her. Her side of the room is cold and cool and she’s leaned back in her chair, looking completely disinterested in him.
The use of the fire is yet another way it’s being shown how he’s ‘hot’ while she’s ‘cold’. I’m just assuming that he’s the one lighting this match, it wouldn’t make sense otherwise.
More fire. She’s in his arms but is looking less than ecstatic about being there and he’s looking at her and holding the burning lighter. He’s hot, she’s cold.
And even more fire symbolism. The fact that he puts out the giant birthday candle with his hand, yanks it out and buries his face in the cake I’m not sure how I should explain. It might be something like this: He’s too eager and has therefore put out her ‘candle’ and instead of getting laid has massively failed. Which is why he buries his face in the cake. It makes perfect sense, okay!!
I just have to comment on this. This looks like the worst kiss ever. I feel bad for you, Ga In.
This is also a very interesting scene, it’s the only one where they in anyway look like they actually like each other. It is worth noting that her smile dies when he can’t see her face though. This could also be a representation of the sort-of-attraction that is expressed through the lyrics.
Oh the blood-splattering scene… I’m sure this scene is very symbolic in some way but the only way I can interpret it is as a very visual representation of a violent and not-very-nice relationship.
I’m not sure what this scene should mean either. It creeps the hell out of me, which means it’s awesome.
This ending scene of him all hunched over is deep. Not sure how, but I’m sure it is.
There is no dance in this video. Obviously. That would have been weird.
Outfits and Styling
Ga In looks absolutely gorgeous. She should always have that exact hair cut. Or, at least, that length. I guess the guy looks good too, I liked the yellow suit, but he’s such an ass in the video that I can’t say anything nice about him. Wow, good job by the actor!
Her wet hair, slightly smudged eye makeup and not-so-perfect-anymore lipstick almost makes it look like she’s been sitting in a cold shower, crying. Which I totally understand, in that case. I’m not sure why they made her wear blue contacts but they aren’t too overpowering and actually suit the overall color-scheme of the video, so they can stay.
There we have it, my review of Ga In’s new video ‘FxxK You’! Ga In is one of my favorite ladies in kpop and she definitely delivered this time around, both in the song and video department. I hope she does well, always.
